Stan Barber's Notes

Mark Kosters will show that the InterNIC is overworked and understaffed.

rs.internic.net is dying. Multiple machines will be deployed to replace the single machine. A number of things exceeded expectations:

.ORG and .COM are growing at the same rate (3000 added per month). There are 455 registrations per day. Updates are coming at 150 per day. 100 new IP numbers assigned each day with 7000 allocations per month. The Hostmater receives 600 letters per day and the overall rate is increasing. However, postal mail and fax rates are relatively flat. IP addresses are assigned in a 3-5 day window.

The whois database on rs.internic.net has about 2 to 3 queries per second.
