Hosting a NANOG Meeting - North American Network Operators Group





Network Topology

NANOG meeting staff will install a network to provide 802.11 a/b/g wireless access in all meeting rooms and many of the common areas of the hotel venue. The NANOG network topology will vary from venue to venue, but will generally follow the network diagram.

Host's Responsibilties

  1. Internet Connectivity

    1. Provide at least 45M of available bandwidth between the hotel and the commodity Internet. See network diagram.

    2. Provide a native (MSDP, MBGP, PIM-Sparse) multicast and IPv6 link from the meeting site to the Internet if available.

  2. Main Meeting Room

    1. Provide adequate electrical power in General Session ballroom:

      1. Power to the classroom tables for ~400 laptop users
      2. One 20-amp circuit for the stage (separate from AV)
      3. Two 20-amp circuits for the back riser (separate from AV)
      4. One power strip per 2 classroom tables (shared by 4-6 users)
      5. A power diagram layout that has worked well in the past.

    2. Work with the Hotel to Provide NANOG meeting staff with a wide area network map.

    3. Work with Hotel to provide NANOG meeting staff a hotel data wiring layout noting the building riser diagram and location of Ethernet jacks in all spaces NANOG will be using.

  3. Create a Web page with information about the hosting city, the hotel, nearby restaurants, airport information, and directions for travelers. NANOG meeting staff will create a link to this page from the main meeting page.

  4. Create an appropriate T-shirt design for the meeting. NANOG has final approval for the design, arranges to have the shirts printed, and covers printing costs.
