Dominican Republic Information

The Dominican Republic is located in the Caribbean on the island of Hispaniola, adjacent to Haiti.

The first permanent colony of Europeans in the western hemisphere was established in the Dominican Republic. Santo Domingo, founded in 1496 by the brother of Christopher Columbus, was the first permanent city in the New World. Some of the old colonial buildings are still standing in Santo Domingo.

The average high temperature in February is 85 degrees (Fahrenheit). The average low temperature is 66 degrees.
