DNSSEC Goes Mainstream: Deployment Incentives, Experience, and Questions

Suzanne Woolf, Internet Systems Consortium
Presentation Date: June 16, 2009, 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Room: Regency Ballroom, 2nd FL Mezz

Abstract:
After a dozen or so years of protocol development, operational whiteboarding, and implementation effort, the Security Extensions to
DNS (DNSSEC) protocol is now moving rapidly into the field.

The talk will look briefly at the technology itself, but the overview has been presented to NANOG and many other audiences before. The focus
will be on explaining how the environment changed to drive more interest in DNSSEC, a couple of basic use cases, some initial
deployment observations from TLD operators and other field experience, and a look at some open issues for operators to consider.
