Counter Identification
OIDs are not limited to SNMP protocol
- Are useful, globally unique values that can be used for identifying anything.
Once a MIB module is published, OIDs are bound for all time to the objects defined.
- Objects can not be deleted! See RFC 2665
- Can only be made obsolete
- Even minor changes to an object are discouraged
