Panel Abstract: Core Network Design and Vendor Prophecies

Danny McPherson, TCB, moderator Carey Parker, Chiaro
Riad Hartani, Caspia
Dave Ward, Cisco
Puneet Agarwal, Pluris
Scott Poretsky, Avici
Dave O'leary, Juniper

This panel will afford core router vendors the opportunity to discuss their perception of service provider requirements for core network design, especially in view of recent changes in the economy.

While presentation topics will be scoped somewhat loosely to avoid large overlaps, monotony and snoring, the panel members will be required to focus on technical solutions, technical presentations, and general directions versus their specific solutions.

Some potential discussion topics include:

  • Node reliability
  • Availability & survivability
  • Bandwidth and network expansion
  • High-speed packet sampling and filtering capabilities
  • Future POP designs
  • Focusing on ROI from existing infrastructure.
