When Might Single-Area OSPF make sense?

• Fewer than 50 routers with alternate paths

• Needs:

  • multivendor compatibily
  • fast convergence
  • VLSM
  • complex defaults and externals

• No clear candidates for core

  • OSPF power greatest with hierarchy
  • Multiple domains may be better than 1 area
  • EIGRP a possible alternative
