- Definition of “fair” is described by the servicing algorithm
To guarantee bandwidth and delay parameters per class
To reduce jitter (delay variation between packets)
To isolate users
- Prevent unruly “hog” flows from starving others
This is an example of what might colloquially be called “Quality of Service”
- Unfortunately, like “VPN”, “Switch/Router”, and “IP Switching”, marketing propaganda has only served to confuse as to what QOS really means
