2023 Board Candidates

The NANOG Board of Directors is an active and engaged part of NANOG. The Board is responsible for and works closely with Committees to promote, support, and improve NANOG.

  • The Board is responsible for the selection of all committees including, but not limited to, the Program Committee.
  • The Board is responsible to the members ensuring that the NANOG organization remains open, relevant, useful, and financially sound.
  • A Voting Board member will be appointed to serve as ex-officio to NANOG committees to facilitate communication.
  • A voting member of the Board of Directors may not serve concurrently on the Board of Directors and other NANOG committees.

Candidates elected to the Board of Directors will serve as Board-Elect Members through the remainder of 2023 to allow an observation and transition period. They will attend the Board meeting conference call on Friday, 17 November, as well as participate in the Board Retreat taking place 6-7 December 2023.

The official term begins 1 January 2024 and will conclude 31 December 2026 (three years). Board Officers for 2024 will be selected during the first Board Meeting of 2024.

Requirements & Desired Attributes

Per the NANOG bylaws, Board members must also be NANOG members in good standing, and must attend (in person or virtually) at least two of three yearly NANOG meetings while in office. Each candidate must declare any and all affiliation(s) relevant to NANOG, which will include his or her main employer, as well as any other major relationships (for instance, if a candidate's primary employer is a nonprofit entity which is sponsored by a vendor, the candidate would declare both the nonprofit and the vendor as affiliations).

A good candidate will have experience with Internet technology, operations, and governance organizations as well as the principles and practices which guide them. Consensus organizing, leadership, outreach, and communications skills are prized, and a willingness to be engaged in the governance process is required.

Experience in the desired areas of: fundraising, non-profit or general board governance, or non-profit finances, are also of great value to NANOG.

All candidates have completed the Nomination form, and are NANOG Members in Good Standing. Board of Director Candidates will be invited to make a short presentation during the Board Candidate Introductions session on Tuesday at NANOG 89.

17 October 2023 - Voting for Board of Director Candidates begins

25 October 2023 - Voting for Board of Director Candidates ends

The Elections Committee will review the results and announce them to the membership no later than 30 October 2023.
